21 July 2026 . At Lothal in Gujarat, India’s maritime legacy is being brought alive through a world-class heritage complex. Covering 400 acres, the project will showcase 4,500 years of seafaring history, Harappan town planning, and immersive galleries through advanced presentation methods and theme-based attractions.
Details: The National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal is being developed to present India’s ancient maritime journey in a modern and experiential form. During the media visit, officials explained that the complex will feature fourteen themed galleries, a life-size Harappan town, coastal state pavilions, a jetty, waterways, and several theme parks.
Visitors will also experience lighthouse attractions, a 5-D theatre, eco-resort concepts, and theme-based hospitality spaces. The project aims to connect ancient trade, naval history, and cultural exchange with contemporary learning and tourism.
It is planned as a major destination for education, research, and heritage travel. With international cooperation and regional tourism circuits, the complex is expected to place Lothal on the global heritage map as a powerful symbol of India’s maritime civilization and its enduring cultural depth.
