Governor Harichandan stated that through higher education, youth acquire critical thinking skills, creativity, and moral values, which prepare them to face complex challenges. It opens doors to better career opportunities, contributes to economic development, and prepares empowered leaders and active citizens in their communities. A literate youth represents the future of any society, state, or nation.
He further stated that in regions like Bastar, the Chhattisgarh Government expects youth to actively participate in the social and economic development of their communities while upholding the values of peace, harmony, and progress. They are encouraged to be part of the education and skill development initiatives aimed at enhancing employment opportunities and contributing to regional development.
Governor Harichandan extended his congratulations to the students and researchers who received degrees and gold medals.
He further stated that Bastar is a land enriched with prosperity, natural abundance, and vibrant cultural traditions. Nature has bestowed Bastar with unparalleled beauty. Its lush green forests, flowing rivers, and mineral-rich soil are testimony to its environmental prosperity. At the heart of Bastar’s attraction lies its vibrant cultural heritage. Indigenous tribes like the Gond, Maria, and Muria have nurtured unique languages, customs, and art forms. Embracing modernity in Bastar, efforts are being made to promote sustainable development, cultural preservation, and inclusive growth.
Harichandan stated that with access to modern tools, platforms, and resources, today’s youth have the capability to tackle serious challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and issues related to healthcare using technology and innovation. He expressed satisfaction that the university has received approval for a grant of Rs. 100 crore under the Central Government project “MERU”, which will enhance facilities at the university, including the operation of several departments. He also expressed joy at the active participation of students from the Shaheed Mahendra Karma Vishwavidyalaya in the “Viskit Bharat@ 2047” campaign. He stated that this campaign serves as a platform to involve an entire generation in achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047. He urged everyone to continue efforts towards building a progressive and inclusive India together.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Manoj Kumar Shrivastav, presented the progress report of the university. Professor Ram Kumar Kakani, Director of the Indian Institute of Management Raipur, delivered the convocation address.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the contribution of the Bastar region to promoting higher education is significant. All graduates and postgraduates passing out of the university will play a crucial role in the development of Bastar. He distributed gold medals to 93 students from the last two sessions, including 71 women. He stated, “Our government’s top priority is the development of Bastar and Surguja. There is a need to propel the development of tribal areas as well. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated numerous schemes to uplift these backward regions”.
Sai expressed happiness that girls in Bastar are receiving education, which is a positive change for Bastar. The Chhattisgarh Government and Central Government have jointly allocated Rs. 100 crore under the MERU project as a part of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). This funding will mark the beginning of a new era of higher education in Bastar.
He mentioned that approval has been granted to the university to initiate 33 new courses in 20 new departments. Many of these new courses are quite useful for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Padma Shri awardee Dharampal Saini, Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap, Jagdalpur MLA Kiran Deo, Commissioner Shri Shyam Dhawde, IG Sundarraj P., Collector Shri Vijay Dayaram K., SP Shri Shalabh Sinha, Registrar Shri Abhishek Kumar Bajpai, and other distinguished guests, professors, faculty members, and students of the university were present.
