Urges to ensure quality, safety standards, and adherence to deadlines in construction works

Inaugural session of ‘Inaugural session of ‘Public Works Department Engineer Training’ addressed by Deputy Chief Minister‘ addressed by Deputy Chief Minister

Raipur 11 June 2024/AMRIT TODAY/

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao addressed the inaugural session of a training programme organized for engineers of the Public Works Department on Tuesday. He emphasized that equipping engineers with knowledge of new road and bridge construction techniques will enhance their efficiency. This training will introduce them to modern design, construction, and maintenance techniques for culverts, as well as small and medium bridges, ensuring quality construction and maintenance across the state.

The four-day training for engineers from Raipur and Durg divisions of the Public Works Department is being held at Naveen Vishram Bhavan in Raipur. It is a collaborative effort between the Public Works Department and the Indian Academy of Highway Engineers (IAHE) under the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Deputy Engineers, Assistant Engineers, Executive Engineers, and Superintending Engineers from both divisions will receive comprehensive training on design, construction, maintenance, and repair of culverts and bridges, along with insights into quality control. Experts from various institutions and construction agencies will be conducting the training sessions.

Addressing the engineers, Sao stated that there is no age for learning. As long as a person works, they keep learning continuously. With time, the needs of the field change, and new technologies come and go. We also have to update ourselves according to these changes. Only then do we remain useful and relevant. He added that today, the traffic on roads is continuously increasing, and high-speed vehicles have also emerged. Keeping these factors in mind, it is necessary to strictly follow safety standards in the construction of roads and bridges.

He further stated that the Public Works Department handles DPR preparation, tender agreements, quality inspection and control, and payment of works for various construction projects in the state. Therefore, it is also the responsibility of the department to ensure quality, safety standards, and adherence to time limits in construction projects. He expressed hope that during this training, the departmental engineers would be exposed to new technologies and standards from both the country and the world, and would implement them in the field. This training will enhance the qualifications, efficiency, and effectiveness of our engineers. Sao thanked IAHE for organizing this productive training session.

During the four-day training, IAHE Director Shri Sanjeev Kumar, former Chief Scientist of Central Road Research Institute Dr. Lakshmy Parameswaran, Satendra Kumar, and Managing Director of Elegant Consultant Shri Alok Pandey will provide detailed insights into design, construction, maintenance, and repair of culverts and bridges, along with quality control measures. IAHE Joint Director Dinesh Kumar Sharma, PWD Engineer-in-Chief Shri KK Pipri, Chief Engineer (Bridge) ML Oraon, along with all Chief Engineers, attended the opening session of the training.
