Eye and Blood Test Camps Conducted, Experts Emphasize Importance of Nutrition and Eye Care

Amrittoday / The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur’s Sahyog Club organized a five-day workshop on “Health, Wellbeing, and Welfare of Safai Mitras” from September 24 to 28, 2024, as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 (SHS 2024) campaign.
The workshop aimed to promote health awareness, occupational hazard avoidance, balanced nutrition, and timely eye care among sanitation workers. Keynote speaker Lt. Col (Dr.) Hari Prasad, MD(Gen), DM (Infection Diseases), AIIMS Raipur, emphasized environmental awareness, regular exercise, and sufficient hydration.
Dr. Madhukrishna Priyadarshini informed participants about central and state welfare schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, and Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
Clinical nutritionist Dr. Shweta Chhabra stressed the importance of proper nutrition and a healthy diet, highlighting the risks of packaged and junk food.
Ophthalmologist Dr. Princy Choudhary discussed common eye diseases, emphasizing the importance of regular check-ups and addressing computer vision syndrome. In the question and answer session, she addressed doubts on genetic eye disorders, role of yoga, and side effects of contact lenses and surgery complications.
The workshop included eye and blood test camps, providing comprehensive health check-ups for Safai Mitras.
